Mirror Carp fish
Mirror carp is one of the cultivated foreign fishes of Bangladesh whose scientific name is Cyprinus carpio var. speculates and the English name Mirror Carp. The body of this yellow-orange fish looks very bright. The large fins are also yellow-orange in color. Some scales can be seen on the surface and on both sides in a row or irregularly, which distinguishes this fish from other roe fish.
Currently, this fish is spread all over the world, and its origin is in the Black Sea, Caspian, and Turkestan. In ancient
times, this fish spread to Greece and Europe from Rome. Later it spread to other countries in the Far East including Israel. In Asia, Russia, China, and Japan have the highest prevalence. This fish was first brought to our country from Nepal in 1978 and in 1980 it was possible to produce fry through artificial breeding for the first time.
It prefers to live on the bottom of the water body and its main food is the decaying organic matter of the bottom, tiny food particles (plankton), and bottom-dwelling micro-organisms. This gluttonous fish can grow up to 4 to 5 kg in a year if it gets enough food and a favorable environment.
Usually prefers to breed in shallow water with aquatic weeds. At the end of winter in Bangladesh, they can be seen breeding in ponds in February. Eggs are sticky in nature and they are laid in some medium (such as weeds or other aquatic weeds). Its fry is easily produced in hatcheries through induced breeding.

Sometimes it lives in the mud of paddy fields. When the water dries up in summer, they live in mud or burrows at the bottom of reservoirs.
Their body is long. The maximum size is up to 38 cm. Antlers are long and cylindrical at the front but flattened at the back. The head is flat at the top and bottom. There are 4 pairs of long tentacles on the mouth and two poisonous spines on either side of the head. Adult fish are brown or black in color. Red when small.
Their dorsal and anal fins are long. The dorsal fin has no spines. The pectoral fins are spiny and serrated on the inside. The anal fin is quite long and the caudal fin is rounded. They have an air sac on the surface of their gills. This pouch extends down the back to the tail. Because of this pouch, they can stay alive above water for a
long time. Essentially these sac-like extra respiratory organs take in oxygen directly from the air. The air sac of hornfish is called the Tubular air sac.
Hornfish are commonly called monster fish. They feed on various types of insects, fish larvae, aquatic animal larvae or mosquitoes, algae, protozoa, snails, mussels, mud, sand, etc.
Horned fish breed once a year in the natural environment in 35-50 cm deep water. April to July is their breeding season. But breeding is more during monsoon season. Common low-lying water bodies are suitable spawning grounds. A mature female hornfish can lay 2,843-44,724 eggs. Eggs hatch within 24 hours of hatching. For the first five days, these larvae take food from the yolk sac.
Nutritional value: Every 100 grams of horn fish contains 23.0 grams of meat, 0.6 grams of fat, 670 mg of calcium, and 650 mg of phosphorus.
Gangetic koi
The length of the fish is 25 cm.
Body covered with medium size aish. The color of the fins is light yellow. This species survives for 6 to 10 hours without water.
The scientific name is Anabas cookies. The fish is called Gangetic koi in English.
