The Crab
Hermit crab
This crab is an animal with ten pairs of appendages and a shell-covered body. They belong to Paguroidea superfamily. Although they are crabs in name, they are not related to crabs. Rather, they are closely related to shrimp. They are often seen in coastal areas where they sink at high tide but remain above water at low tide. Most hermit crab species have a soft underbelly. They protect themselves by entering the shells of dead snails. They always carry the shell on their backs. The tip of the snail's abdomen is specially adapted to tightly grip the axis inside the shell. As the body grows in size with age, the hermit crab leaves its old shell and finds a larger shell. Thus, the hermit crab is named after its habit of repeatedly leaving its old habitat behind.
Horseshoe Crab Limulus is an elliptical crab that looks like a horse. It is also known as “King Crab”. But although it is called a crab, this crab is more similar to a spider in terms of species. They are marine arthropods belonging to the family Limulidae.
